Information, Knowledge and Skills in ICT are vital assets in the 21st century. It sustain the continuing revolution that is taking place in all main sectors of the new world economy, such as education, industrial, banking, health, finance and entertainment.
ICT stands for Information and Communications Technology, a range of sub-disciplines that are integrated by their concern with the definition, representation, communication and processing of information using computer and networking technologies. This technology has a key role to play in the development of skills and knowledge; the critical assets that improve the ability of national and global infrastructures to collect and manage data, to provide services, to monitor performance and to plan effectively for the future.
To Make use of this Important Technology the Arusha Technical College, established the Department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT Department), replacing the then “Computer Section”; responsible in providing Training, Consultancy and Research in ICT Related matters.
In the Academic Year 2012/2013, The Department started to offer Ordinary Diploma (NTA Level 4-6) in Computer Science and Information Technology under the National Technical Award framework. The curricular used in the department are modular in structure; competence based and meets the challenges of current technological developments. The competence based education and training (CBET) emphasizes on learningoutcomes, which demonstrate competencies knowledge and practical skills required for a particular task.
It also provides services to other academic departments in the teaching of computer related modules/subjects. The Department has adequate resources to run its programmes, which include well equipped Computer Labs, all networked, Internet connectivity and classrooms, 12 teaching staff and 2 technical support staff.
