Introduction Mechanical Engineering Department is one of the first four engineering departments that were established at Arusha Technical College way back in 1978. The Department offers training under the National Technical Award (NTA) frameworks which emphasizes on Competence Based Education and Training (CBET). The department also offers various tailor-made courses and consultancy services to various institutions and individuals in the country.
Department Vision The departmental vision is to contribute in promotion of the manufacturing industry in area of design, production, maintenance and management.
To produce high quality technicians and engineers who will participate in the development of production works and cope with their advancements.
To expand and sustain the optimum use of the departmental resources.
To offer consultancy services on design, energy, manufacturing and maintenance works to the community.
Programme offered Currently the Department offers programme in Basic Technician Certificate (NTA Level 4), Technician Certificate (NTA Level 5) and Ordinary Diploma Certificate (NTA Level 6) both in Mechanical Engineering. Upon successful completion of the training, the student is equipped with skills and knowledge to be able to repair and maintain machines and equipment in industries. The students will also be able to design and manufacture spare parts and machines in a modern workshop and perform supervisory and managerial works.
Physical infrastructure and equipments
Metal and Fabrication Workshop (M I), - responsible for metal fabrication, forging, casting, welding and other sheet metal works.
Machine Tools Workshop (M II) - responsible for machining and other work related to the machine shop.
Pneumatic Laboratory - responsible for pneumatic systems practices.
Metrology Laboratory dealing with materials testing for conformance to specifications or technical requirements
